Name: AngelfishScientific Name: Pterophyllum
Origin: The Amazon
There are two main types of Angelfish, freshwater and salt water. Both types of angels have various colors and sizes. With freshwater, the ones I’m talking about, have various types, such as silver, marble, golden etc.
Behavior:
Angelfish even though they do look delicate and kind, are fairly agressive. They do not go well with their own kind. I found that if you are going to buy some, buy more. From what I understand, if you just buy two, the dominant one will kill the other one. I have had it happen. They say that you should buy more, possibly six. Mostly since the “boss” of the pack won’t go around bossing everyone around… So to speak.
Angels could go with larger tetras (Black skirts, serpaes etc), barbs, platys, mollies, gouramis, rainbows, corydoras’s, plecos etc.
Life and Size:
Angelfish as they get older, get larger height wise, and the size of their body (circumference) does get fairly big. From the Angels that I have seen before they get fairly big, which I would assume was at least a foot. With good care, Angels have been known to live a very long. With good care, Angels can live longer then five years!
Tank:
Angels like I stated earlier, get very large. Even though they are small in the beginning they get big. So I would suggest getting at least a 20 tall tank for their tank. As the fish get bigger, you should consider getting a bigger tank to accommidate for their large size.
Angels also like planted tanks. Meaning that the tank they live in contains real plants that are growing within the tank. Especially if you plan to breed them. You would need a tank full of broad leafed plants such as swords, bigger leafed cryptocoryne, bigger anubias nana etc.
